SQUASH & STRETCH Performance Festival Oxford Brookes University May 2018 Curated by Peta Lloyd and Veronica Cordova de la Rosa
In SMILE KEEP SMILING for SQUASH & STRETCH 2018 the artist invited members of the audience to help her pin props to her as she applied paint and other items to herself. As she did so she shared her thoughts on her role as a performance artist and her delivery changed from conversational and inclusive to repetitive pronouncement. She performed dance moves with toothbrushes and sung fragmented song in front of projected images of her ageing smile as glamour bolstered itself against decay in a performance that was part public health warning and part comedic burlesque !
